Norte Hamburg

Our Approach to Sustainability

What We Already Do

Our programmes are walking-first by design. The most memorable Hamburg experience is almost always on foot — through the Speicherstadt canals, along the Elbe waterfront, under the Elbphilharmonie — and walking programmes produce no direct transport emissions. Where transport is included, we default to Hamburg's public transit network and boat connections rather than private coach arrangements where practicable for the group.

We source from local Hamburg suppliers: the harbour boat operator, the catering service, the venue partner. Working with Hamburg-based businesses means fees stay in the local economy and that we have a direct relationship with the supplier's quality rather than relying on subcontracted intermediaries.

What We Are Working Towards

We are in the process of registering with the Hamburg Convention Bureau, which maintains a directory of sustainable event and programme suppliers in Hamburg. Supplier sustainability assessments — asking our partners to confirm their own environmental and social commitments — are on our Year 1 checklist. A simple carbon footprint estimate for standard programme types is something we aim to offer buyers on request by the end of 2026.

An Honest Note on Where We Are

Norte Hamburg is a new operation. We do not have a formal sustainability certification, an annual carbon report, or a published environmental policy document. We think it is more honest to say that clearly than to produce a document that lists intentions as achievements.

What we do have is a genuine walking-first, local-supplier-first approach that produces less environmental impact than coach-based, agency-aggregated alternatives by default. We are building the documentation to match.
